Letters to the Editor
Twenty20, as widely thought, will not threaten Test cricket. As amply demonstrated in the just-concluded tournament, the classic virtues of Test cricket — the genuine strokeplay of Yuvraj Singh, the excellent spin bowling of Daniel Vettori, the sustained fast bowling of Umar Gul and Stuart Clark, the dynamic captaincy of Shoaib Malik and Dhoni — were on display. Twenty20, if used judiciously, can, in fact, help Test cricket. S. Pravin, Chennai For me, the memorable moments of the tournament are Chris Gayle’s breathtaking century in the opener, Zimbabwe’s shock win over Australia, India’s win in a bowl-out against Pakistan in the league phase, Bangladeshi Mohammed Ashraful’s knock against the West Indies, Brett Lee’s hat-trick, Misbah-ul-Haq’s great knock against Australia, Yuvraj’s sixes and the fastest 50, and, of course, India’s victory in the final. R .Devikumar, Tiruchi It is a shame that those who could not afford a set-top box or DTH were denied the opportunity of watching India clinch the Twenty20 final only because Doordarshan did not telecast it live. DD ought to have got the permission to telecast this match. Sriram Moorthy, Chennai In the 1983 World Cup, Zimbabwe beat Australia in their first match and India won the coveted Cup. In the ICC Twenty20 too, Zimbabwe shocked Australia in their first match, and India took home the trophy. H. Umar Farook, Vedasandur
