Captain courageous

The importance of the captain was never demonstrated as well as in the final at the Wanderers. With the game in balance, and Misbah-ul-Haq firing on all cylinders, Dhoni made the bold decision of replacing Harbhajan Singh with the relatively inexperienced Joginder Sharma. The move paid off handsomely. Sharma’s lack of pace forced Misbah to hole out to Sreesanth and India had won.

All credit to Dhoni who has shown glimpses of his captaincy skills. The victory symbolises a confident stride taken by the new generation of Indian cricketers.

Dhoni has proved that he is a worthy successor to Dravid and can handle pressure well. Pakistan, under Shoab Malik, also played excellent cricket and anybody could have won the final.

What a comeback from the shocking first round exit in the ICC World Cup! A young team under a young captain has brought off a splendid victory.

A proud moment for all Indians. In a thrilling final, India displayed a trait that it lacked in the past — killer instinct. Focus, determination, and team spirit, abundantly seen in Team India’s performances, are what bring victory, not foreign coaches.

Skipper Dhoni, very humbly, dedicated the well-deserved victory to the team. There is no doubt that the Indian team has found its future captain.

Hats off to Dhoni’s boys for their spirited and fearless display that brought India glory in cricket’s shortest version. The team, throughout the tournament, played a brand of cricket that will be cherished by millions of fans for a long time.

Though Dhoni did not contribute as much as expected with his bat, he deserves praise for never losing his cool and marshalling his resources admirably.
