DAVANGERE: Of the 534 polling stations in Davangere district, 276 have been declared hypersensitive and 194 sensitive. Elections will be held on Friday to the Davangere City Corporation Council, Harihar City Municipal Council and the Harpanahalli, Honnali, Chennagiri and Jagalur town municipal councils in Davangere district. There are 149 wards in the six civic bodies in the district. Superintendent of Police Ravindra Prasad told presspersons here on Tuesday that 46 mobile squads and 14 supervisory mobile squads had been set up in the district to ensure peaceful polling. Apart from this, 10 District Reserve Police and two Rapid Action Force platoons and 513 Home Guards would be deployed. Intelligence squadsTwo special intelligence squads had been formed to prevent untoward incidents or proxy voting in the elections, Mr. Prasad said. The Police Department had taken steps in coordination with officials of the Excise Department to check the sale of liquor on the day of polling. All political parties had been asked to comply with the model of conduct issued by the Election Commission. Mr. Prasad said four election-related cases had been booked in the district so far. He did not rule out preventive arrests, if required, to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.
