People thanked for their cooperation

Hyderabad: The city police officials attributed the incident-free and peaceful Ganesh Nimmajjanam on Tuesday to police efforts and public cooperation.

Speaking to mediapersons, Additional Commissioner of Police, N.Surendra Babu, said that unlike every year when security forces were deployed one or two days before the NiMmajjanam, this year additional forces of 15,000 personnel were positioned in the city at least seven to nine days in advance.

In the South Zone, all officers of Inspector and above rank camped in their offices for the last one week monitoring the arrangements. Extensive sabotage check, round-the-clock stepped up frisking of individuals and vehicles and most importantly public cooperation helped in the peaceful immersion, Mr.Surendra Babu said. He said that about 500 idols were taken for immersion in the South Zone area.

At Hussainsagar, for every three cranes, one DSP rank officer was in charge for smooth operations. Also, bomb disposal squads with sniffer dogs were posted at the immersion site. Four army boats with two divers each were in the waters. A total of 16 CCTV cameras were installed to monitor the procession and 20 hand held cameras were also seen in action recording the movement here.
