HYDERABAD: Television actor of ‘Mahabharata’ and ‘Shaktiman’ serials fame Mukesh Khanna on Tuesday demanded an apology from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for his comments on Lord Rama.

Addressing the Ganesh immersion procession at Moazzam Jahi Market here, he said the religious sentiments of the Hindus were hurt by the comments. “For thousands of years, Lord Rama is worshipped and such comments are not called for,” he said. The crowd cheered the actor when he spoke in his inimitable ‘Bhishm Peetahmaha’ style from the ‘Mahabharata’ serial. Mr. Khanna said the country was in need of many Shaktimans to counter the evil of terrorism.

He also applauded the city for its resilience in recovering quickly from the recent bomb blast. Making a comparison with Mumbai, he said, “the immersion festivities here are more colourful and the participation also is more energetic”.
