NEW DELHI: Nearly 72 hours after he was brutally beaten up by a violent mob in the Jamia area here, Akhilesh Yadav -- Additional Station House Officer of the New Friends Colony police station -- regained consciousness on Tuesday evening. “He has gained consciousness and is talking to his family members. He is showing signs of improvement and will be shifted out of the Intensive Care Unit tomorrow,” said Apollo Hospital authorities. Mr. Yadav’s family has been extremely worried since the attack as his condition had been fluctuating. Head Constable Sambu Dayal and Constable Deepak Chander, who also sustained grievous injuries in the assault and were admitted to the same hospital, are also said to be out of danger. All three had sustained severe injuries on their heads and legs. Deepak Chander, whose father Ramesh Sharma is himself a Head Constable in the Delhi police, was operated upon in the afternoon. “He is facing difficulty in taking meals and has been kept on a liquid diet as his jaw had to be operated,” said his friend, Head Constable Bhagirath. Deepak has been in service for more than three years and was shifted to the New Friends Colony police station only three months ago. Sambu Dayal, who continues to be in the ICU, has also recovered well in the past 24 hours and is out of danger.
