BANGALORE: Yet another round of controversy-ridden auction of government lands recovered from encroachment began on Tuesday, after over two months. In the first part of the four-day auction anchored by the Prevention of Unauthorised Construction Cell, as much as 46.08 acres in Bangalore North and South taluks went under the hammer. However, only 21.3 acres elicited response from the bidders and was auctioned for a total of over Rs. 6 crore, marginally over the guidance value set by the State Government. While the lands that won bids fell short of government expectations of Rs. 1 crore per acre, eight out of the 14 blocks, totalling 24.18 acres put up for auction received no response at all. The largest block of 13.38 acres at Shivakoti village also failed to get any bids. The lands notified for auction were located in Hesarghatta hobli in Bangalore North taluk and Uttarahalli and Kengeri hoblis in Bangalore South taluk. The maximum bid of Rs. 3.22 crore was for 10.19 acres on Survey no.94 in Shivakoti village in Hesarghatta hobli by an individual Lakshminarayan. Two other blocks- 4.38 acres at Survey no. 94 in Shivakoti and 17 guntas at survey no.75 in Taralu in Uttarahalli hobli- also went to Mr. Lakshminarayan. The next round of auctions are slated for September 27 and 29 and October 4 and 6.
