Palm launches smartphone

NEW DELHI: The U.S.-based Palm on Tuesday launched its new high-end smartphone Palm Treo 750 in India. The company has tied up exclusively with leading mobile operator Bharti Airtel and will initially be available in ten cities, including the four metros.

Priced at Rs. 26,990, the new phone provides facilities such as email, messaging, web browsing and organisation software, all in a new compact design.

The new smartphone is capable of 3G for fast data access and comes with Microsoft’s direct push technology for Windows Mobile providing unique productivity and multimedia experience to users.

The Treo 750 comes bundled with a month of free unlimited data usage from Airtel. The smartphone also comes with a free palm wireless keyboard with Bluetooth wireless technology, making it easier to compose longer messages, reports and even spreadsheets.

Launching the smartphone, Palm Inc Business Head (South Asia), Sharon Ee, said, “India is an important market for Palm and Treo.

Over five million Treo smartphones today are being used by companies and individuals around the world, and continuing to expand the Treo footprint is a key focus for Palm.”

According to Bharti Airtel’s Chief Marketing Officer, Sanjay Gupta, “Our alliance with Palm to introduce the stylish and power-packed Treo 750 smartphone underlines our commitment to innovation. We are excited at the opportunity to bring to our Airtel users a best-in-class product that delivers a rich experience that makes it an essential mobility, productivity, and business tool.”
