Orthopaedic surgeon wows the audience.
On a song: Satish Bhatt, orthopaedic surgeon, singing at a programme at Tagore Hall in Kozhikode on Tuesday. — A surprisingly low turn-out and a less than perfect sound system did not seem to affect Satish Bhatt at the Tagore Hall in Kozhikode on Tuesday night. The Thamarassery-based orthopaedic surgeon impressed in a show of old Hindi film songs and ghazals, organised by Navatharangam. His diction was good and as was his rendition of most of the songs. Especially pleasing were his efforts at singing Hariharan’s popular ghazal “Kuch door hamaare saat chalo…” and Yesudas’s even more popular number from the film Chitchor’, ‘Gori tera gaon bada pyaara…’ Satish could have done better though with his rendering of the Kishore Kumar song from ‘Mehbooba’, “Mere naina sawan bhadon…”. He was, however, good at another Kishore song, “Sagar kinare...”, (‘Sagar’), which he sang with Uma. Uma’s rendering of the Asha Bhonsle bhajan from the film ‘Kajal’, “Tora man darpan kahalaaye…” was one of the highlights of the show. The other singers of the evening were Mohammed Nisar, who did a fairly good job with “Badi door se…” (‘Samjhauta’), and Vinod. P.K. Ajith Kumar
