UNFLAGGING CAMARADERIE: After a gap of two decades, poet O.N.V. Kurup and music director V. Dakshinamoorthy are working together in a film titled ‘Mizhikal Sakshi.’ — O.N.V. Kurup and V. Dakshinamoorthy last worked in tandem twenty years ago for the film ‘Idanazhiyil Oru Kaalocha.’ Now, the maestros are back in action putting together the songs for the film ‘Mizhikal Sakshi’ directed by Ashok R. Nath. The recording of songs for the movie has begun; K.J. Yesudas has sung a song while K.S. Chithra and S. Janaki will do so shortly. O.N.V. and ‘Swamy’ were in the grip of nostalgia when they sat down to brief mediapersons at the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club on Wednesday. “I am not going to tell you that this will be a movie with a difference. I have come to hate that word, difference. Before the launch of every movie directors and actors would tell the media that their latest venture is different. There will be no difference. The ‘formula’ for that film will be similar to that of another successful movie,” O.N.V. began. He went on to point out that both he and ‘Swamy’ had only one aim— the four songs for the movie must be really good and they would put in their best for that. “It was 20 years ago that we put together the song Vaathilppazhuthiloode… for ‘Idanazhiyil Oru Kaalocha.’ Yesudas told me people still request him to sing that song. It is when we work with young people that we are also imbued with youthfulness,” O.N.V. said. ‘Swamy’ told the gathering that it was God’s will that he should score music for this film. He began in his trademark manner, “Sarvacharacharangalkkum Namaskaram, Characharaguruvinum Namaskaram,” and went on to narrate how the film’s director first gave him a card on which it was written ‘Mizhikal Sakshi.’ “It was the almighty’s way of saying, ‘who are you to decide that you have stopped giving music. I am the one to decide that,” he said with a smile. The director said the cast was yet to be finalised. “There will be Sukumari amma, Manoj K. Jayan, Sai Kumar, Jagathy Sreekumar, Kochu Preman… the list is only getting ready.” The film is all about the bond of love between a mother and her son. “Today’s social set up, social conditions… the film deals with how they affect the relationship between the mother and her child,” he explained.
