KORAPUT: Spending a mere amount of Rs. 12, one can generate vibrations in the field of communication that can be worth of 12 million dollars. This wonder was achieved by Aslam Baig of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Koraput. He presented an award winning project at the National Level Science Exhibition held at the IIT, Kharagpur, bringing laurel for the State. The innovative project titled ‘Application of Principles of Similar Triangles in the Field of Communication’ was adjudged as the best project of all the entries in the Innovative Projects in Mathematical Model category at the exhibition, School Principal C.Aliveni said. Aslam, worked on the idea set by his mathematics teacher V.Vijaylaxmi and developed the project with the support from the school. He used only four drawing sheets costing Rs.12 instead of spending a few thousands of rupees like others. Being the low-budget project, it attracted more attention of the jury apart from the way he presented his idea and project, Aslam said. A revolutionThe jury comprising of eminent professors from the IIT were also convinced on the possibility of bringing revolution in the field of communication with the application of the ideas presented in the project, he added. In the project, he described the methods of using theorems on properties of similar triangles to bring optimum signal strength in providing communication through mobile phone. The project if implemented could bring down the cost on infrastructure and the call charges, he said. The little scientist also a good poet and orator gives the credit to his teacher and the school for his success. Studying in class 11, he aims to be a doctor, but felt that his love for mathematics would not die.
