Farmers urged to cultivate GM crops

ADILABAD: Adilabad Joint Collector G. Ravi Babu on Wednesday suggested cultivation of genetically modified (GM) crops for getting increased yields. He said increase in yields not only ensured better returns for farmers but, also took care of the needs of the country.

Inaugurating the workshop organised by Agriculture Department on genetically modified crops with a focus on post release monitoring here, the Joint Collector quoted examples of Brazil and Israel. He said the two countries have excelled in agriculture production thanks to going in for GM crops.

Mr. Ravi Babu also urged scientists to improve crop varieties through the latest techniques in agriculture engineering. He also urged seed companies to supply quality seed to farmers.

Joint Director of Agriculture C. Sayanna, principal scientist Agriculture Research Station (Adilabad) T. Pradeep and Principal of Horticulture Polytechnic P. Ramesh also participated among others.
