A homage to M.K.K. Nayar

The city cherishes fond memories of M.K.K. Nayar, who was a lot more than a bureaucrat. Selected to the Indian Administrative Service in 1949, he served many posts like Deputy Secretary in Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, deputy general manager of Bhilai Steel Plant, managing director of FACT and advisor to National Planning Commission.

But the legacy that he left behind were in works that he did in his positions like chairman of Kerala Kalamandalam, founder chairman of Kerala Kalapeetom and chairman of the Padmasri Guru Chengannur Raman Pillai Kathakali Academy.

Kerala Kalapeetom is remembering him on his 20th death anniversary. The commemorative meeting, to be held in association with Orthic Creative Centre, will be held at the Adhyapaka Bhavan on Thursday.

George Sleeba, chairman and managing director of FACT, Udyogamandal, will be the chief guest for the commemorative session. Senior artist M.V. Devan, chairman of Kerala Kalapeetom, will preside.

Prof. M.V. Krishnan, who has been given Lalithakala Ratnam Award for 2007, and M.K. Sanoo, who got fellowship of Kerala Sahitya Akademi, will be felicitated.

This will be followed by an art camp, in which artists like M.V. Devan, Jayaram C.S., C.N. Karunakaran, T. Kaladharan, M.V. Krishnan, K.K. Rajappan, Anil K.V., Baburam M.R., Binuraj D., Deepak P.W., V.J. John, T.G. Jyothilal, Manoj Vyloor, N.N. Mohandas, Murali Cheeroth, P.V. Nandan, M.P. Nishad, Rajendran G., Ratheesh Vincent, Roy Thampuran and Shijo Jacob will participate.

The camp, which will be held at the Orthic Creative Centre, Karikkamuri Road, will end on September 30. Artists will be working on different media like oil colour, acrylic, water colour and ink. Works produced in the camp will be exhibited in the city in October-November and later at different venues across the State.
