Vedike office-bearer assaulted

Staff Correspondent

Belgaum: In an election-related violence in here on Wednesday, former Deputy Mayor Sunil L. Kudachi, his elder brother and eight others allegedly assaulted Belgaum district Kannada Rakshana Vedike president Rajeev Topannavar for supporting a pro-Kannada candidate in the election to the Belgaum City Corporation.

According to the first information report and also sources, Mr. Sunil Kudachi and his elder brother, Appi Kudachi, came in a van and allegedly attacked Rajeev and a few other vedike members while they were on house-to-house campaigning in favour of Feroz Darga in Ward No 37.

Mr. Topannavar has lodged a complaint with the Market Police Station.

Amid rumours that Sunil Kudachi and Appi Kudachi were taken into custody, Additional Superintendent of Police S.K. Hegde told The Hindu that it was not the case.

He said the police have taken up investigation.
