Kakinada: As many as 20 international players, including eight women, are expected to participate in the South Zone Inter-state Badminton Championships to be held here for four days from Thursday, according to K.Ch. Punnaiah Choudary secretary of the AP Badminton Association. Of them seven players are from Karnataka, six each from Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday along with Chundru Govindaraju, sponsor of the event, he said top players participating from Kerala include Jaseel P Ismail, Markos Bristow, Sanave Thomas, Ram C Vijay and Jaison Xavior.
He said teams from Andaman Nicobar islands, Puduchery, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala would participate in the championship. K Durga Prasad Additional DGP Grey Hounds will attend the inaugural function on Thursday. Govindaraju, president of the Kakinada Badminton Association, said this was the first time that the South Zone championship was being hosted in Kakinada.
