Medico’s suicide in Cuttack triggers row

Correspondent

CUTTACK: A third year MBBS student of SCB medical college here was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her hostel room on Wednesday morning.

While police said the girl from Soro in Balasore district committed suicide, her family members alleged foul play and blamed a college teacher.

Police claim to have recovered suicide note from the medico’s room, but her family members assert that the handwriting in the note doesn’t match.

Police registered an unnatural death case. However, Lopamudra’s family members claim that she was worried as one of her teachers was harassing her.

“My daughter has not committed suicide. She appeared very tense on Tuesday evening while talking to me over telephone. She said she was being harassed by a teacher who had threatened to give her fail marks in the exams,” said Lopamudra’s mother Sabitri Rout, who is a schoolteacher.
