Staff Reporter

PUDUKOTTAI: A section of councillors at the monthly meeting of the Municipal Council held here on Wednesday, voiced their concern over the dog and mosquito menaces prevailing in parts of the town, and urged the authorities to take immediate action to check the incidence of diseases.

Initiating a discussion, S. Nainar Mohammed (DMDK) said that the problem due to dog menace had got aggravated in the last few months. The councillors S. Pazhaniappan (CPI) and M. Khader Gani (DMK) also explained the ordeals the residents underwent in the wake of the dog and mosquito menaces.

Mr. Pazhaniappan also wanted stern action against those flouting the building norms.

The councillors also wanted the ‘urban slum development programme’ to be launched in all the slums in the town. They urged the municipality to adopt a resolution for the implementation of the ‘Anthoyadhaya Annapoorna’ scheme to benefit the aged persons with free rice supply. The services of temporary employees of the municipality should be regularised, they added.

The Municipal Chairperson U. Ramathilagam, who presided over the meeting, assured them that steps would be taken to redress their grievances.
