THENI: Special medical camps under the ‘Varumum Kaappom’ scheme will be conducted in 105 places in the district this year to take advanced health care to the doorstep of rural people, said Collector Har Sahay Meena on Wednesday.
He was addressing a special coordination meeting on the scheme at the Collectorate here.
Sixty-five camps were conducted since the launch of the scheme in December last. Of the total 3.37 lakh patients treated, 2,413 were referred for advanced treatment. Medicines worth Rs.7.19 lakh were distributed.
Doctors diagnosed 44 persons with cardiac problems, 365 with cataract, 51 with hernia and 32 with cervical cancer. They were treated at Theni Government Medical College Hospital.
Samples collected
Cancer screening test was conducted on 2,656 persons and samples were collected from 15 persons for tissue test. People in rural areas should attend the camps and avail the benefits, the Collector said.
