Mandi: Congress will not project its chief ministerial candidate ahead of polls in Himachal Pradesh, which are due early next year, Congress Working Committee member and in charge of affairs in the State R.K. Dhawan said here on Wednesday. “Have you come across the Congress projecting a Chief Ministerial candidate ahead of assembly elections. It has never been a tradition in the Congress,” Mr. Dhawan told reporters emerging from a meeting of party workers here. He praised the Virbhadra Singh Government. “Mr. Singh has carried out rapid development in the State which would prove significant for the party in winning the assembly elections due in February next year,” he added. Poll plankSignalling that development would be poll plank of the party, Mr. Dhawan asked workers to carry the message to the grassroots. He, however, ruled out any possibility of re-admitting Vijay Singh Mankotia, who released a CD against the Chief Minister and his MP wife, accusing them of corruption. Attack the BJP, Mr. Dhawan accused it of “misleading” the people. He also claimed the BSP will not prove any threat to the party, saying “the election will expose them in the hill State.” -- PTI
