Consider power amnesty, says Walia

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi Power Minister A.K. Walia on Wednesday asked the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) to actively consider proposals submitted by the Capital’s three power distribution companies for an amnesty scheme for power consumers.

The move assumes significance as Dr. Walia had upon taking charge recently as Power Minister assured that a suitable amnesty scheme would be brought in to speed up installation of new meters in cases where consumers had voluntarily disclosed tampering, theft and non-functioning of meters.

Subsequently the three discoms had jointly submitted a paper with two alternatives relating to implementation of an amnesty scheme during a definite period of one month.

Dr. Walia said a sincere implementation of this scheme would help in reviving confidence of the consumers in the discoms and also go a long way in making the billing system smooth.
