NEW DELHI: The New Delhi Municipal Council proposes to build an underpass near Charak Palika Hospital next to the Rail Museum in Chanakyapuri to ease traffic congestion in the area. “The main problem in the area,” according to an NDMC official, “is of taking a right turn towards Moti Bagh while driving on Shanti Path towards Ring Road because the right turn has been stopped. It takes a long time at the Moti Bagh red light to take a U-turn. That is why the NDMC has proposed this underpass project in the area.” Elaborating on the status of the project, the official added: “The NDMC has approved the project in principle and roped in RITES as a consulting agency to study the feasibility and various other aspects related to the project. Once it submits its report in a month’s time, we would be able to work out the exact details of the construction as well as the budget and timelines.” The project was proposed about two months ago and Rs.15 lakh was sanctioned for it. “Once the NDMC gives its final approval, we plan to start construction after obtaining a no-objection certificate from the Railways and the traffic police,” said the official. “We are also aware of the road crossing problem of pedestrians on that particular stretch and are planning to build a foot-over bridge there to address their concerns.”
