ANANTAPUR: Social audit will be taken up on the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in the district only in five mandals from October 1. According to Collector N. Sridhar, those who resort to irregularities and corruption in the NREGS will not be spared. Severe action, including criminal proceedings, will be initiated against such individuals. Wage employment works under the scheme should go to all the needy families and they must get wages equivalent to their work. It has come to the notice of the administration that transparency is lacking and irregularities are being committed in the preparation of muster rolls, measurement of the work done, payment of wages for completed work, etc. at a few places. Fifteen field assistants, technical assistants and other officials were suspended during the last two months on the charge of committing irregularities, he said on Wednesday. A fresh round of social audit was planned in mandals, from where there were reports of irregularities. Five teams were already conducting inspections in Gooty mandal for the last couple of days.
