Showcasing State’s industrial agility

The Department of Industries, in association with the Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-BIP), Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (KSIDC) and the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA), is organising a Trade and Technology Business Show (TTBS) at Hotel Le Meridien, Kochi, from September 27 to 29.

It aims at bringing together buyers across India and the globe, so that they can interact directly with sellers from the small and medium enterprises of Kerala.

One of the objectives of the TTBS is to introduce new technologies to small and medium manufacturers and thereby increase their competitiveness. At present, it is difficult for small and medium enterprises to access foreign technology and use state-of-the-art equipment. The government wants to bring new technology to their doorsteps. The TTBS is expected to serve that purpose.

The show will highlight the industrial agility and knowledge- based skills of Kerala to the rest of India and the international trading community. The advances in technology, the drive to reach out competitively and the creation of an enabling business environment have contributed to Kerala evolving as a global destination for competence in the manufacturing sector. Kerala produces goods and services estimated at Rs.17,000 crore annually in the small and medium sectors alone.

Seven sectors of Kerala’s industry will be showcased at the TTBS. They are food and agro processing, Ayurveda and herbal products, coir, handlooms, handicrafts, bamboo and screw pine and rubber and rubber products.

The show will have an exhibitor section, in which over 70 exhibitors from elsewhere in the country and abroad will get an opportunity to showcase their machinery and technology in the seven chosen sectors. Over 150 national buyers and 50 international buyers are expected to take part in the TTBS.

The food and agro processing products to be showcased are spices and its products, organic and health products, dairy and confectionary products, agriculture products, food processing and packing equipment, kitchen equipment and tableware, refrigeration, poultry farm equipment and supplies.

Herbal products

The Ayurveda and herbal products are herbal oils, cosmetics, therapeutic services, spa centres, Siddha and naturopathy. The coir products will include coir mats and carpets, mesh matting, coco logs, coir matting, coir yarn and pith, non-woven coir products, coir interiors, needled felt, coir fender, coir braid, coir ropes and coir brushes.

The handloom products comprise materials, fashion wear, traditional and designer saris, dhotis, and interior furnishing material. The handicraft products are coconut wood and shell-based products, wood and so on.

Bamboo and screw pine products are bamboo curtains, cane and bamboo furniture, murals and bamboo interiors. Tyres, tubes, balloons toys, gloves, foam rubber products, conveyor belts, automobile product parts and condoms will figure in the rubber and rubber products category.

The B2B meet organised by the previous government did not yield desired results and it proved to be a mere trade event. The meet ignored the technology side and competency of manufacturers. That is why the government formulated the new concept of the TTBS.

The TTBS will offer new technology as well as buyers for the products. It will provide an opportunity to the small and medium entrepreneurs to keep abreast of the technological advances. Small and medium entrepreneurs and industrialists can form a group or a consortium to jointly obtain new technology on a cost-sharing basis.
