Four held for murder

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The Irukkangudi police on Tuesday arrested four persons in connection with gang rape and murder of a devotee at the Mariamman temple.

The 40-year-old woman was found dead on September 15 in a bush. Investigation led to the arrest S. Subbaraj (26), R. Marimuthu (24), R. Rajkumar (30) and S. Balamurugan (26). “All of them were working or running shops in the temple area,” the Inspector of Police, P. Devarajan, said.

The accused had intercepted the devotee in a secluded place when she went there to attend to nature’s call. The body of the victim was burnt beyond recognition.
