1,013 works under State scheme, says Collector

PERAMBALUR: A total of 1,013 works taken up under the ‘Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam’ in 130 village panchayats in the district in the past two years have been completed and the district administration has been monitoring its implementation for ensuring expeditious execution of this rural development programme, Perambalur Collector Anil Meshram said.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, he said that in all 3,131 works were sanctioned on an outlay of Rs.22.19 crore out of which Rs.8.32 crore had been spent.

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs.10.27 crore this financial year for the construction of additional blocks for 16 schools in the district. Works were being executed.

Labs for schools

The district administration has also sent a proposal to the State Government for the construction of laboratory and class rooms for 38 higher secondary schools on an outlay of Rs. 30.87 crore, he said.

On the achievements of the Highways Department, the Collector said that 194 works were being executed at an estimate of Rs.13.81 crore. The works included construction of eight major bridges for which Rs. 5 crores had been allotted.

Two-acre scheme

An extent of about 550 acres distributed under the ‘Free two acre land’ scheme had been reclaimed and levelled so far. In the fifth phase of the programme, 274 landless labourers in the district would get 414.75 acres of land, Mr. Meshram said.

The Kumbakonam division of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has taken steps for introducing new bus routes from Perambalur to Udhagamandalam and Velankanni.
