dated September 27, 1957: VIP treatment

Officials of the Union Finance Ministry are showing interest in a report from New York that the US Air Force has decided to ban VIP (Very Important Person) from its vocabulary as part of its economy drive. The report had said the term VIP would now be replaced by DV (Distinguished Visitor). The idea was to tighten up the use of plush accommodation and time-consuming ceremonies with which the US Air Force bases had been flattering civilian and military visitors. Henceforth, Defence Department and military visitors would be expected to decline offers of VIP (that is, DV) treatment.
