NEW DELHI: Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., the Indian-subsidiary of Italian auto firm Piaggio, on Wednesday launched CNG version of its cargo carrier, Ape CNG. Promising high performance at low cost, the eco-friendly vehicle will be available in Delhi and its adjoining townships, and also in Agra, Ahmedabad and Surat where CNG is available.

The CNG cargo carrier has been priced at Rs. 1.40 lakh, while the company plans to introduce its passenger version soon with a price tag of around Rs. 1.30 lakh.

Ravi Chopra, Chairman and Managing Director, Piaggio Vehicles, said “next year we should be able to introduce ‘Ape Truk Plus’ which will cater to the upper-end of the sub-one tonne segment,”. The company is investing 60 million euro at its Baramati facility in Maharashtra for a three-wheeler diesel engine facility with a capacity of about two lakh units a year, which will become operational by 2009.
