Mahin named captain

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: P.M. Mahin will lead the State team which will take part in the National sub-junior boys’ hockey championship to be held in Bhopal from September 27 to October 6.

Assumption triumphs

The host Assumption College defeated Alphonsa (Pala) 3-0 and won the 14th Sr Tresa Mary memorial all-Kerala inter-collegiate women’s volleyball tournament in Changanassery on Wednesday.

The results: Final: Assumption bt Alphonsa 25-22, 25-14, 25-21.

Semifinals: Assumption bt SNM, Maliankara 25-7, 25-8, 25-14.

Alphonsa bt NSS, Karamana 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22.

State U-11 chess

The State under-11 chess tournament will be held at the Sreeshankaracharya Sanskrit University hall, Thiruvananthapuram on September 29 and 30.

Those born on or after 1-1-1996 are eligible to take part in the tournament.

The top two finishers in both sections will represent Kerala in the National championship which will be held in Kozhikode on October 23.

Ivanios, Assumption bag titles

Thiruvananthapuram’s Mar Ivanios College and Changanassery’s Assumption College won the men’s and women’s titles in the first Archbishop Joseph Attipetty memorial all-Kerala inter-collegiate basketball tournament at the St. Albert’s College in Kochi on Wednesday.

The results (finals):

Men: Mar Ivanios, Tvm bt St Albert’s, Ekm 46-26. Best player: M.Nikhil (Mar Ivanios).

Women: Assumption, Chgy bt Alphonsa, Pala 47-38. Best player: Nicy Francis.
