Aussies arrive in Bangalore

WARM RECEPTION: Australian captain Ricky Ponting gets a traditional welcome on arrival in Bangalore.

BANGALORE: The Australian cricket team arrived at the Bangalore airport on Wednesday evening and was quietly whisked away to Hotel Grand Ashok, amidst tight security.

The Ricky Ponting led World Champion is in India to play seven One-Day Internationals, the first of them a day-night encounter to be held at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium here on September 29.

The team was accorded a traditional welcome at the lounge of the hotel.

The Aussies smarting at the defeat at the hands of India in the semifinals of the just concluded ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa will surely set to settle scores.

A string of functions are slated for Thursday with Ponting scheduled to address the media in the morning.

The Indian team will assemble in Bangalore on Friday morning.
