Sangareddy: Interviews for Anganwadi workers for the Medak area ICDS have been postponed till further notice following clashes between the Congress and Telugu Desam Party activists in Medak town on Wednesday.
Trouble started when TDP activists lead by Municipal Chairman Batti Jagapathi alleged interference by local legislator P. Sasidhar Reddy and that several applicants were allowed to appear for the interview even after the stipulated time.
The TDP men then laid seize of the RDO office where the interviews were going in the presence of the ICDS Project Director Sailaja and Medak CDPO Sasikala.
They gheraoed the officers and demanded cancellation of the appointments.
Meanwhile, Congress workers also gathered at the RDO office and raised slogans demanding continuation of the interviews.
Volatile situation
Even as the police tried to force the slogan shouting activists out, they clashed and the situation became volatile.
Later, the TDP activists organised a dharna outside the RDO office, protesting the manner in which the interviews were conducted.
District Collector B. Venkatesam, who was contacted by the RDO over telephone, asked the ICDS officers to postpone the interviews till further date to cool off tempers of the warring political parties.
While postponement of interviews might have satisfied the politicians, women who travelled long distances to Medak, along with their infants, were subjected to hardships due to the two-hour-long dharna.
