NEW DELHI: Taking a serious note of an alleged attempt to criminally assault and murder a young woman doctor with the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital here, the National Commission for Women on Wednesday constituted a committee to look into the case. “The three-member committee headed by Malini Bhattacharya will call on the Police Commissioner soon and seek a report on the progress made in the case. The committee will also press for medical examination of the victim and speedy investigations. It will also visit the hospital on Thursday to meet the victim,” said National Commission for Women Chairperson Girija Vyas. “Awful”Terming the attack “awful”, Ms. Vyas said: “We condemn it in the strongest possible words. If a doctor is not safe in the hospital, then who is safe? It is a stigma on the medical fraternity. The NCW has taken a serious note of it.” Meanwhile, the police continued to grope in the dark four days after the case of attempt to criminally assault and attempt to murder was registered at the Moti Nagar police station on Saturday night. No progress yet“No progress has been made in the case. We are still awaiting the doctors’ nod to record the victim’s statement,” said a police officer. The incident had come to light on Friday night when the doctor’s sister came to check on her as she had not been answering her phone calls. She found the doctor lying unconscious in her hostel and rushed her to hospital. She was shifted to Balaji Hospital in Paschim Vihar the next morning.
