Stray dogs maul four-year-old girl at Kempapura

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A four-year-old girl was attacked by a pack of dogs on Wednesday at Kempapura village in Hesarghatta hobli.

Sanjana, daughter of Veerappa, a milkman, was answering nature’s call at an open field when about 20 street dogs pounced on her and injured her severely.

“She has sustained multiple lacerated wounds on her scalp, body and limbs. The attack had avulsed her scalp so that her skull was also left open. One wound was particularly bad with the tear being about 10 cm long. We had to suture the wounds,” said Padmalatha S., paediatrician from M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, where Sanjana is recovering.

She has been placed under observation, said Dr. Padmalatha. Vijay Bhat, who owns a farm where Sanjana’s father works, attributed the large number of dogs to a piggery that was set up a couple of years ago in the area. He has filed a complaint with KSPCB.
