Petition dismissed

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition by a Supreme Court lawyer challenging the appointment of the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare as president of the All-Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, saying that the issue had already been decided by the High Court and the Supreme Court.

Dismissing the petition by Lily Thomas, a Division Bench comprising Justice M.K. Sharma and Justice Sanjiv Khanna said the Union Government had the power to appoint the Minister as president of the Institute.

The petitioner had challenged the appointment on the ground that a Minister under Article 350 of the Constitution was part of a grievance redress forum.
