Tourism opens door for women is the UN theme

Painting competition for schoolchildren


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) in association with the stake-holders of the tourism industry has chalked out various programmes in the capital and in the resort of Kovalam on Thursday to mark the World Tourism Day.

Hundreds of the members of the Tourism Club functioning at the higher secondary level in the schools in the capital will participate in a rally. The rally will be taken out at 2 p.m. from Vellayambalam and proceed via Museum and Statue to the Central Stadium.

An autorickshaw, car and two-wheeler rally has also been scheduled from near the entrance of the KSFDC’s Chithranjali studio in Thiruvallom to the beach resort of Kovalam. The rally will be flagged off by secretary of the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association G. Sudhiesh Kumar at 9 a.m. George Mercier, MLA, will inaugurate the valedictory function to be attended by panchayat presidents, hoteliers and social workers.

A painting competition for Lower Primary, Upper Primary, High School and Higher Secondary level students will be held on the premises of the Government Guest House at Kovalam. The competition is open for school students in the Vizhanjam and Venganoor panchayats and in the Thiruvallom zonal division of the City Corporation. Students should reach the premises with painting materials by 9 a.m., according to DTPC secretary N. Subramaniam.

The paper for the painting competition will be provided. The United Nations World Tourism Organisation has chosen ‘Tourism opens door for women’ as the theme for the World Tourism Day. Sri Lanka has been selected as the host country for the World Tourism Day. celebrations this year.
