New voter registration centres by October

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit declared on Wednesday that new Voter Registration Electoral Photo Identity Card (VREPIC) centres would become functional in the Capital’s different Assembly segments by October 31. These centres would undertake the work of addition, deletion and correction in electoral list, issue photo identity cards and enrol new voters.

Reviewing the progress on establishment of these centres, Ms. Dikshit emphasised the importance of completing the exercise in all the 70 Delhi Assembly segments with due caution and care.

The review meeting was also informed that 11 such centres had already been established while another 28 centres would be commissioned by the first week of October. These centres are being established at convenient places so that they are easily accessible to all the people in the respective segments.

Booth level officers would be appointed to contact residents at their homes for updating electoral rolls. All the MLAs have been requested to identify places where hoardings would be installed to provide all relevant information about these centres.
