Three arrested on charges of robbery

KOCHI: The Palluruthy police on Wednesday arrested three persons of an eight-member gang on charges of waylaying a person and robbing him.

According to the police, the accused stopped the car driven by Xavier Francis at Chirakkal, Palluruthy on Saturday night at 10.30 p.m. and robbed his mobile phones and gold ornaments. They also took him to his house at Chilavannur and took his credit cards, Rs.22,000 in cash and made him sign a cheque for Rs.25,000. The group then got away with gold ornaments weighing 14 sovereigns and the car.

Those arrested were Sachu, 23, and Babu, 24, of Perumpadappu and Vipin, 19, of Palluruthy. The stolen car, credit cards, one mobile phone of the three stolen and Rs.6,000 were recovered from the accused.

The police are on the look-out for the rest of the group.
