Software engineer hangs herself Crime notes

BANGALORE: A young software engineer committed suicide by hanging herself with a dupatta at her house in K.R. Puram police station limits on Tuesday.

The police gave her name as Namitha Palleyi (24), a native of Orissa and a resident of Pai Layout in K.R. Puram.

She was employed as an engineer with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Whitefield, the police said.

Namitha left her office in the afternoon stating that she was unwell. Around 7 p.m., her roommates, Kumuda and Manisha, returned home from work and knocked the door. When Namitha did not respond, they informed the house owner. When the house owner broke open the door, Namitha’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan, the police said.

Namitha has left a six-page note addressed to her brother. The police, who suspect she suffered from depression, said the letter was written in Oriya.

The K.R. Puram police have registered a case of unnatural death.

Murdered

A three-member gang stabbed to death Karunakaran (27) in Yeshwanthapur police station limits on Tuesday night.

The police said that around 8.15 p.m. Anthony and two others stabbed Karunakaran (27) in the abdomen while he was standing near the Gayathri temple in Hanumanthappa Colony, off Yeshwanthapur Circle.

A severely wounded Karunakaran was rushed to K.C. General Hospital and he died there later in the night.

According to police, Karunakaran had quarrelled with Antony a few days ago. The Yeshwanthapur police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the accused.

Killed in accident

Three motorcycle riders were killed in as many road accidents in the city on Tuesday.

The police said Panchaksharam (32), a mason and a resident of Kothnur on Bagalur Road, was killed after a mini lorry hit his motorcycle near Kammanahalli junction around 9 p.m.

The police have seized the lorry and arrested the driver. Chandramouli (48) was killed on the spot after a lorry knocked down his motorcycle near G.R. Tech Park, off Whitefield, in K.R. Puram traffic police station limits around 6 p.m. The pillion rider was injured and he has been admitted in Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences, the police said.

In another incident, C. Ajay Kumar of Doorava-ninagar was killed on the spot after a lorry hit his motorcycle in Airport traffic police station limits around 9.15 a.m., the police said.
