1,197 villages under Suvarna Gramodaya 2,420 retired lecturers to be on contract BANGALORE: Bangalore will soon have a specialised diabetic care institute run by the State Government with the State Cabinet on Wednesday clearing a proposal for setting up the Bangalore Diabetes Institute. Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti told presspersons after the Cabinet meeting that the institute would come up on the premises of the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology. A 17-acre land would be identified in Bangalore city for setting up the proposed institute, he said. To begin with, Rs 2.50 crore would be allocated for the institute. The Cabinet gave green signal for the implementation of the first phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission scheme related to urban infrastructure in Bangalore and Mysore by entering into an agreement with the Centre. It decided to promulgate an Ordinance to set up Law University in Raypur in the Hubli-Dharwad area. The Cabinet chose 1,197 villages for infrastructure development under the Suvarna Gramodaya scheme. Of this, final and partial clearance for implementation of the scheme was provided for 1,112 villages. It was decided to set up a committee headed by the Development Commissioner to monitor the implementation of the programme. The committee would review the implementation of the scheme every fortnight. With the process of recruitment of pre-university college lecturers expected to be completed only after six months, the State Cabinet decided to appoint 2,420 retired lecturers on contract basis with a consolidated monthly pay of Rs 5,000. For Bangalore, the Cabinet gave clearance for construction of a stadium at Hombegowdanagar at a cost of Rs 7.15 crore and revised the estimate for construction of sports complex in Brundavananagar from the earlier Rs 2.60 crore to Rs 16.80 crore. Just a week before the scheduled transfer of power, the State Cabinet on Wednesday gave green signal for 47 proposals. This included awarding of contracts for the construction of the Rs 34.95-crore building for the proposed government engineering college in Ramanagaram, the Assembly constituency of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and construction of Rs. 5.78-crore private bus-stand in Shimoga, the home district of Deputy Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa.
