She may be passé in a way but then she is one of those truly ‘evergreen’ personas.
In town to receive the ‘ANR Swarna Kankanam 2007’ award, Kanchana nee Vasundhara Devi spoke on her tryst with filmdom and life in general. A picture of contentment, confidence and humility, she says she wants nothing more in life. She was presented the MGR award in 2005. Making her debut in Tamil in the ever-popular comedy of 1964, ‘Kaadalikka Neramillai’, (later also re-made in Telugu as ‘Preminchi Choodu’ with Akkineni Nageswara Rao). She was introduced to the Telugu audiences with ‘Veerabhimanyu’ with Sobhan Babu, a film that was also his first. Her last film was ‘Ananda Bhairavi’ in Kannada, directed by Jandhyala and produced by Dwarakeesh, with Girish Karnad as co-star. Her journey lasted about two decades, 23 years after her last appearance , she has nary regret.
