Sangareddy: Dearth of funds to provide basic amenities for tourists has hurt the administration’s effort to transform the district into a tourist destination. The ambitious tourism development programme for the district unveiled by the then Tourism Development Minister J. Geetha Reddy seems to have lost momentum with many of the projects like the Singur recreational park failing to take off.
Except the Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani temple, no other tourist spot in the district received substantial funds to provide drinking water and sanitation facilities. The Medak fort, Amin Khan tombs, ancient temples in Kalpagur , Nandi Kandi and Jherasangam require huge funds to complete the ongoing development work and to retain tourists at least for a day. Despite appointment of a District Tourism Officer to speed up the work on projects, much needs to be done. For instance, Rs. 62 lakh was sanctioned during 2003-2004 of which only Rs. 32 lakh had been spent.
