‘State booked cases against 86,000 cadres’
HYDERABAD: Leaders of the Left parties and various other organisations on Wednesday attacked the State Government for adopting ‘intimidatory’ tactics to scuttle the ongoing movement for distribution of land to poor.
Addressing a meeting organised by 195 people’s organisations here, CPI (M) legislator Paturi Ramaiah said the police gave a new turn to the repressive measures by the Government against the movement by using abusive language and making obscene advances towards women participants. He warned that the Government will pay a heavy price if it plays with lives of poor.
Former CPI MLA K. Ramakrishna said the Government is resorting to intimidation against participants of the struggle without its misdeeds going to the notice of media. He regretted that the Government foisted cases against the poor instead of doing so on the land mafia.
Civil rights leader G. Haragopal said the Government will lose its very purpose if it fails in its duty to protect human rights while resolving social problems. S. Veeraiah, State secretary of the CITU, and poet Jwalamukhi were present.
