High Court to get five more judges

Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI: With the Supreme Court Collegium approving five of the six names for appointment, the Madras High Court will soon have five new judges — two from the subordinate judiciary and three from the Bar.

According to Union Law Ministry sources, the names of V. Periyakaruppiah and M. Venugopal from the subordinate judiciary and advocate K.A. Sasidharan have been sent to President Pratibha Patil. The appointment is expected in a couple of days.

The file relating to two other advocates, M. Sathyanarayanan and K. Kannan, is pending with the Prime Minister, who is expected to give his clearance and forward the names to the President.

Sources said the appointments were being made as per seniority.
