Sameness stands out
Wearing uniforms is no longer the prerogative of students and corporate staff. One entire government department too tried its hand at it and promptly became a topic of discussion in other departments. All the employees of the District Industries Centre (DIC) in Malappuram attended office recently wearing a distinctive uniform. While men came in light pink shirt and white dhoti, women wore cream sari and green blouse. Uniquely, the clothes were hand
woven.
It was the government directive to its employees to wear khadi and handloom clothes on Saturdays that prompted the DIC staff to go for a hand-woven uniform. They claim they are the first department in the State to try out a uniform. Many other departments have evinced interest in it. Then, why not try it with more attractive colours and designs?
