Three youths from Kannur, driven by a passion for bike riding, are participating in the Raid de Himalaya Rally 2007 to experience the adventure of riding in the mountainous Himalayan terrain. Rakesh Chandran, O.K. Sukesh, and Rittesh Maroli will be participating in what is considered as the most strenuous motorsport event in the country, beginning on October 1 and concluding on October 8. The three were encouraged to participate in this di fficult motorsport by their thrilling experience of covering south India on their two-wheelers. The passion for exploring India has made them participate in the rally that will cover a distance of over 1,700 km, they say. The three of them will start from here and drive through the Sahyadri Ghats and Gwalior before reaching Shimla where the rally will be flagged off. They are already excited visualising the adventurous ride that will cover half a dozen of the world’s highest motorable passes that are above an altitude of 15,000 feet It is the endurance and fitness of both men and machine that will be tested during the rally, they say.
