Fiery feat: Akash driving through a ring of fire before setting out on a blindfold drive in Guntur on Thursday. —

GUNTUR: Surging crowds, peak hour traffic rush and the searing heat could have rattled most of the vehicle-riders in the city. But all these could not prevent Jadugar Akash from pulling off yet another daredevilry feat as he rode blindfolded through the thoroughfares of the city on Thursday.

The sight of Akash, son of magician Anand, dressed in black T-shirt and denim jeans, zipping away on his bike astounded many on the streets. Akash successfully completed the route in about 30 minutes. The event acted as a perfect curtain raiser for the magical show to be kick-started at Sri Venkateswara Vignana Mandiram here on Friday, as it captured the imagination of the people.

The feat was flagged off at the Vignana Mandiram on Thursday in a dramatic fashion as Akash emerged from a ring of fire onto the podium.

Guntur-1 MLA Namburi Subani flagged off the rally. He personally tied a piece of card board to the eyes of Akash before putting a black cloth on his eyes. The proud father, Anand too encouraged his son.

No looking back

Once the rally was flagged off, Akash did not look back. He turned right and passed through Naaz Centre, Bose Bomma Centre, and Hospital Road before turning left and reaching Jinnah Centre.

From then, it was a smooth ride with the rally winding its way through Rajiv Gandhi Chowk, Road Over Bridge, and Lodge Centre and all through the Ring Road before touching the Lakshmipuram Road and trudged back to the venue.
