On show: Tourism Secretary A. Anbarasu at the exhibition held at Amalorpavam school in Puducherry on Thursday. PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Thursday said that unspent money earmarked for Government departments would be diverted to the Tourism Department. He was responding to a request from Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao for Rs 5-crore additional funds for his department, at the World Tourism Day celebration. Mr. Rangasamy said the Government was implementing various tourism-related schemes including the beach beautification project at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore, water sports complex and an art and craft village. “We have approached HUDCO for a loan of Rs 247 crore for the development of Thirunallar temple. The budgetary allocation for tourism has increased from Rs 16 crore last year to Rs 21 crore this year.” The Chief Minister distributed prizes to winners of a car treasure hunt organised as part of the celebration. A three-day numismatics exhibition was inaugurated at the Amalorpavam Hr. Sec School.
