“This will help them earn a dignified living”
KANCHEEPURAM: The Gandhian Unit for Integrated Development Education (GUIDE), a non-governmental organisation, has called upon the Central and State governments to provide an opportunity for women to run small-scale tourist homes at tourist spots.
This will help them make a dignified living.
Talking to reporters here on Thursday, GUIDE team leader R.Vasantha alleged that flesh trade was rampant at several tourist resorts run by private parties.
Two foreigners were recently arrested on charges of “abnormal sexual practices” at a tourist spot in Kancheepuram, she said.

Many women, who were dragged into sex trade from neighbouring States, were housed at some resorts under the guise of ‘tourists’ during peak season — August to February.
Married women and girls living in nearby localities faced a lot of trouble from tourists, she alleged.
Rural women groups should be allowed to run small tourist homes which would spread local flavour. This could also curb ‘illegal’ activities, she added.
