KANNUR: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has called on the people to make plastic- and garbage-free activities part of day-to-day life. The Minister, while inaugurating the garbage-free Kerala and plastic-free campaign being launched by the District Panchayat’s Health Hygiene Mission here on Thursday, said that sanitation and garbage-free campaign should involve people belonging to all sections. The campaign could be envisaged as a month-long programme beginning on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 and ending on ‘Kerala Piravi Day’. The sanitation activities could be conducted on a competitive basis, he added. District Panchayat president K.K. Narayanan presided over the function. Speaking at another function at Pariyaram here, Mr. Isaac said that uplift of the rural people should be the focus of development. He was inaugurating the Gramasree project, a joint initiative of the District Panchayat, Kudumbasree and the local grama panchayat to promote goat rearing. As many as 500 goats were distributed to beneficiaries as part of the project. Pariyaram grama panchayat president Muthukrishnan presided. Kudumbasree Mission district co-ordinator P.P.
