MALAPPURAM: The Tourism Club at Malappuram Government College celebrated World Tourism Day with a variety of programmes on Thursday. SeminarRajan Vattolipurakkal, principal-in-charge, inaugurated a seminar on ‘women and tourism’ held on the campus. Tourism Club coordinator Moideen Thottassery presided over the seminar. Economics lecturer Sajida Beevi, Malayalam lecturer Unni A., and commerce lecturer Bindu K. addressed the seminar. Shahina M. (II B.A. economics) and Nimitha K. (I BA history) were among the students who took part in the discussion. The screening of a documentary on ‘Switzerland, the Paradise of Europe’ followed the seminar. District Panchayat president Arimbra Mohammed inaugurated the celebrations of the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) at MIC Higher Secondary School, Athanikkal, near here. P.K. Pathummakutty, Pookkottur panchayat president, presided over the function. Mr. Mohammed gave away the prizes to the winners of a painting competition the DTPC conducted for school and college students. Eldos John, head of Tourism Department at Oriental School of Management, Lakkidi, held a class on responsible tourism. DTPC secretary M. Dinesh welcomed the gathering.
