Andhra Pradesh
Party is making every effort to provide an alternative to Congress and BJP VIZIANAGARAM: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has decided to adopt the Uttar Pradesh experiment in other states too as the strategy paid rich dividends in the recently held Assembly elections there. The party is making every effort to provide an alternative to both the Congress and the Bharateeya Janata Party at the Centre, according to the party’s national general secretary Mahesh Arya. At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Arya said that the party president and Chief Minister Mayawati had decided to strengthen the party from grass-root level and accordingly she had appointed him as the in charge for Andhra Pradesh. He said that the response to his party in the seven coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh he toured was encouraging and added that 10 lakh members would be enrolled. Exuding confidence, Mr Arya said “the party already has a member in the State Legislature and the number will multiply in the next elections.” The party would contest all seats on its own, he said. The political parties in the state had been dividing people on caste lines to meet their political ends, Mr. Arya observed. The BSP would put an end to such practice and treat all communities and religions equal, he said. The party would consider 30 per cent reservations to economically poor people in the State. The party State treasurer Gajjela Swamy and district president Somu Rambabu were present.
